This was my 4th Father's day being a Father, which is odd since Emma was still only 2 years old at the time it rolled around. I woke up that morning to breakfast in bed, and some hugs from the girls, and then we quickly got ready so we could be late for Church. We did get there in time to get a bag of Father's Day M&M's from the Relief Society at the end of Sacrament Meeting however.
We ran into an old friend of my Grandma and Grandpa Bourne's at Church who was visiting from Halifax. Her name is Ann Ray and she came over from England with my Grandparents back in the 60's, along with the Leaney's. She was in town because her youngest son's wife was in the Hospital as her water had broke at 27 weeks of pregnancy. Ann came by for a few hours after church with her son's 3 other children so they could let off some steam after being cooped up in the hospital all day. I took them all to the park with Emma, and we ran around the back yard for a while too, but I think I only managed to burn off my own energy.
We had actually celebrated Father's Day the day before by having everyone on the Bourne side of the family over for a turkey dinner (my Dad's choice) after a few of us spent the day working on the basement. I didn't splurge on any major appliances for Dad's gift, but I did go in on a new LCD monitor for his computer. As for myself, I'm considering picking up a Wacom graphics tablet, but they're still pretty pricey, and I'm always afraid of pricey. Hopefully it will end up paying for itself and then some if I can make good use of it.
I love being a Father, and I love my girls so much. After a long day, it's nice when they both go to sleep at the same time, but I find I start missing them only a few minutes after they're down, and I have to laugh as I remember all the goofy things they did that day. It's going to be hard to go back to work when parental leave is through.
